The 55-year-old actor braved the chilly January temperatures and was spotted sprinting over the Thames, with a low-flying helicopter filming his progress.
A few commuters caught the action on their phones, while those travelling on trains below the bridge will have been unaware that one of the world’s biggest film stars was right above them.
Traffic was halted on Blackfriars Bridge and boats kept away from the area while the shoot for Mission: Impossible 6 took place on Saturday 13 January.
Cruise is famous for doing his own stunts, but injured himself last year when he miscalculated a jump between two buildings during a shoot in London and broke his ankle.
Footage obtained by TMZ showed the actor attempting to leap from rigging onto the ledge of another building while strapped into a safety harness; he fell short, however, and his body slammed into the side of the structure.
Hoisting himself up onto the building’s roof, Cruise was then seen limping heavily, before nearly collapsing in front of the other crew members. He was pulled back to the rigging on his harness and led away by crew members.
Mission: Impossible 6 is set for release on 27 July 2018.
