Lawndale armed robbers strike twice in same block


Police are warning residents about a pair of armed robberies reported less than 15 minutes apart last week in Lawndale on the West Side.

In each case, two people approached a victim, displayed a handgun and demanded property or took it by force, according to a community alert from Chicago police.

The first robbery occurred at 9:38 a.m. Aug. 7 in the 1200 block of South St. Louis Avenue, police said. The second occurred in the same block about 9:50 a.m.

The suspects were described as males between 17 and 20 years old, standing 5-foot-6 to 6 feet tall and weighing 150 to 170 pounds, police said.
